Vikki Krinsky is a Los-Angeles based private chef who works with actors, musicians and Hollywood personalities (clients include Tobey Maguire and currently Seth MacFarlane). Her new TV Show, Everyday Health’s Emmy-nominated Recipe Rehab, features her specialty – cooking delicious and nutritious food.
Formerly an actress herself, Krinksy worked on several hit television series including Edgemont (in Canada) and Lifetime’s Wild Card. One day a producer asked her to lose weight, and while she was initially disheartened, she also had a revelation: put aside acting and focus on learning about healthy eating. After a road trip through Europe, and a part-time job with a private chef service in Beverly Hills, Krinsky found her passion and has been cooking nutritious food ever since.
Here, she tells Fit to Inspire, what inspires her!
What kind of fitness/exercise do you do now regularly?
I try to dedicate a solid hour to myself each day for exercise. I jog 4/5 days a week for 30-40 minutes and I like to incorporate 15-20 minutes of resistance training 3 days/week. Plus stretching.
What new sport/exercise would you like to do in this lifetime?
I’m excited to try paddle boarding
What is your idea of a perfectly ‘fit and healthy’ day?
“Fit and Healthy” – Body and mind. The day starts with an early rise, jog on or near the beach, finished off with what I call “My moment of gratitude”: Simply, 15 minutes each morning sitting either on a patch of grass, or in my home facing the window, to slow my mind, smile and remind myself of all I have and all that surrounds me. It’s a terrific way to welcome the day!
What is your biggest fitness and well-being obstacle ever?
Because my job is taking care of someone else’s nutritional needs, full time, I occasionally find it a challenge to take time to care for myself.
What is your greatest motivation to get out the door and moving?
Music! Hip Hop really pumps me up!
What is your all-time greatest fitness-related achievement?
Playing soccer from the age of 4, with an exceptional group of females, the day I was named captain of my provincial soccer team, felt incredibly rewarding. To be able to help lead a team of competitive athletes is a huge achievement in my eyes.
What would you say to people who have not yet discovered the mental and physical benefits of a regular fitness regime?
Our bodies are our machines and they need to be nurtured. It’s easy to take for granted the fact we can get out of bed and walk out the door and work all day. How about using your limbs and lungs and mental strength to enhance your level of happiness? I sure feel a million times better knowing that I am using my mental and physical health to improve my well being as a whole. When you create a fitness regime, it becomes part of your lifestyle and can therefor increase your overall happiness each day. Go on! Get up and try it for 3 days in a row and see how much better you feel!!
What is the best fitness / well-being advice you’ve ever received?
Smile. Always smile.
Who has inspired fitness in you? And how will you inspire others to be fit this year?
My brothers, Terry and Warren, inspired me growing up because I always wanted to be like them- they pushed me to be the best soccer player I could be! I try to inspire others to be fit by getting them excited for how good they can feel! It’s in us all to do, sometime we just need a push to rev up our engine!
Helping people find their strength, mentally and physically is extremely fulfilling!
